University Campus Ipswich
An enthusiastic group of UCI students studying for their degrees in Tourism and Leisure management hosted the first ever Big Dogs Breakfast. Under the guidance of their course tutor, the students created a highly original and successful fundraising event for Dogs for the Disabled.
The event took place on the Ipswich Marina quay side on a sunny Saturday in May. The students secured advertising in the local paper and on the radio, as well as putting up posters around the local area.
They printed off everything they needed to run the event from the website, including table mats, menu cards and fun quizzes. Families, friends and other students came along, and brought their dogs to join in the fun.
Extra money was raised through face painting, dog competitions and a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.
In total the event raised over £200 for the charity.
The Ipswich students had an additional incentive to do well; the event has been built into their assignments and their achievements in marketing, planning and delivering the Big Dogs breakfast will count towards their final degrees. Let’s hope they all get a First!
Briggs Equipment UK
Briggs Equipment UK’s Big Dogs Breakfast created a real buzz with staff throughout the company joining in the fun.
The staff canteen was decorated with the colouring in competition entries from children of the staff, drawings that the staff had done themselves, plus lots of hilarious wacky dog photos!
The event coincided with a visit from the local MP for Cannock and his Chief Whip, who judged the competitions and awarded the prizes to the lucky winners.
Everyone got into the spirit of the event, with the CFO and Director bravely volunteering to be ‘dogs-bodies for the day’, carrying out tasks for the lucky members of staff who successfully bid for them!
A Bring and Buy stall was set up, and the canteen staff ran ‘keep the change’ to collect donations from all food and drink purchases. In total over £600 was raised.
Briggs also generated some local press coverage by inviting photographers from the local papers along to cover the event.
