Well, Frodo and I have had a fairly busy, but very enjoyable, time of late. On Tuesday 8 May we had our first Dogs for the Disabled talk of the year. I’ve been a Registered Speaker for Dogs for the Disabled for over 10 years – first with Bella, and now with Frodo. I do love giving these talks, and I can talk about Frodo and Dogs for the Disabled until the cows come home!
Our talk the other week was to Cameo Ladies’ Group in Hinckley. I didn’t feel it was one of my best, although a member of my audience said that I was the best Speaker they’d ever had (I thought it must have been her first meeting)! When I got home and counted all of the money up, I’d raised a fab £92.50! I did have to count and re-count the money several times – I didn’t believe it!
On Tuesday 15 May Frodo and I were invited to the Mayor Making Ceremony of the new Mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council. The Worshipful, the Mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Councillor Cartwright, has chosen to support Dogs for the Disabled during his Mayoral Year. We had quite a bit of interest about the Charity, and some positive feedback on our latest ‘appearance’ (can you ‘appear’ on the radio?) on BBC Radio Leicester.
On Tuesday 22 May we met up with a few friends at Ashby Road Sports and Social Club. Mand – the awesome Chairperson of our lovely little Supporter Group has a contact there. We now have a venue for our Supporter Group meetings. Our next meeting is to be held at Ashby Road Sports and Social Club (Hinckley) on Tuesday 12 June at 7pm – everyone is welcome! This meeting will be a strategy meeting for our next can collection (Woodland Garden Centre, Stapleton) on Saturday 16 June and Burbage Carnival (Britannia Road Playing Fields, Burbage) on Sunday 17 June.
On Saturday 26 May we had a can collection for Dogs for the Disabled at our local Asda Supermarket. We collected in pairs and did two hour shifts – just so that it wasn’t too much for Frodo (he’s far more important than the humans!). We raised a whopping £234.49! Due to this store being very small, and because of the current economic climate, I thought we’d get about £100. I’m pretty chuffed, to put it mildly!
A massive thank you to the staff of Asda (Hinckley) for allowing us to collect and making us feel so welcome. Also, thank you to my brilliant little team for giving up a couple of hours of their weekend to help. The biggest thank you must go to the customers of Asda for their extremely generous donations.
So, what have Frodo and I got coming up? Just a couple of fundraising things. We’ve also got three hospital appointments in June. Like buses, you don’t see one for ages, and then three come along at once!
Until next time!
