Collections and Carnivals

Howdy!

Frodo and I have had a REALLY busy few weeks.

First, there was the Diamond Jubilee Weekend.  I must admit that I’m not really a Royalist.  I’m not sure why – probably too much of a rebel, and a bit ‘anti-establishment?’  Frodo and I watched some of the TV coverage – the Thames Pageant looked a bit ‘wet’!   I thought the BBC Symphony Orchestra were brilliant, even though that’s not usually my kind of music (I’m more of an Indie/Rock/Punk/Ska kind of girl, with a few boy bands and show tunes thrown-in)!  We’ve got the Jubilee Concert recorded, although we haven’t got round to watching it yet.  On Monday 4 June, Frodo and I had been invited to my Mum and Step-Dad’s neighbour’s Jubilee Party.  We had a really good time and, for just that weekend, the good-old Community spirit had been restored (or maybe I’m just an old cynic?).

On Saturday 16 June, the Leicestershire Dogs for the Disabled Supporter Group (http://www.dogsforthedisabled.org/leicestershire-supporter-group/) had a can collection at Woodlands Garden Centre (http://www.thegardencentregroup.co.uk/garden-centres/woodlands/Woodlands-Nursery-and-Garden-Centre/28).  We raised a fab £180.93.  I’d like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to all those who donated, and to my brilliant little team of helpers.

On Sunday 17 June, it was Burbage Carnival (http://www.burbagecarnival.co.uk/).  This was the second year we had a stall for Dogs for the Disabled at Burbage Carnival.  We had lots of lovely home-made cakes to sell (I didn’t make any – most of my cakes contain fragments of egg-shell, and a few dog hairs), the usual Dogs for the Disabled merchandise, and a ‘Guess the Name of the Dog’ competition (unfortunately, no-one guessed Gary the dog’s name)!  The weather on the day was changeable (i.e. rain, overcast, rain, overcast), and the ground underfoot/wheel was ‘damp’.  We had a good day, and raised £126.65 for the Charity – slightly down on last year, but not bad.  We had a brilliant team of helpers, and another Partnership (Dee, with Stamper) came to lend a hand.  My sister spent most of the day in the dog suit we’d borrowed from the Charity – she wants to buy her own now!

The last couple of weeks have been pretty tough.  My Grandma was taken in to hospital a week last Tuesday (I also had a slight accident with a rib the same day, but I don’t bother taking ribs to hospitals – there’s not much that can be done for them).  On Saturday 16, it would have been Dad’s birthday (he passed away over 17 years ago, but I still really miss him).  On Sunday, it was Father’s Day, and my Grandad was taken in to hospital.  But, with my brain being kept busy with the can collection and Carnival, I got through it.  And, with Frodo by my side with his beautiful eyes, cheeky little grin and tail that wags in a cyclical motion, I’ll be okay.
