Paws Around the World at London Hilton Park Lane

Hotel guests at The London Hilton on Park Lane may get more than they bargained for this Sunday with exercise machines filling the lobby as part of a national charity initiative.

The London Hilton is one of over 70 Hilton hotels traveling “around the world in a day” as part of the Hilton in the Community Foundation’s biggest ever national charity event. All proceeds raised at the Mayfair hotel will be donated to the hotel’s charity partner Dogs for the Disabled and the charity will be represented at the hotel on the day to lend its support.

Hilton staff raise fundsAround the World in a Day participants will collectively aim to travel the circumference of the earth - 24,901.55 miles - by walking, cycling, running, swimming or skipping to cover the distance.

Hilton London Park Lane is taking on the rigorous Team Challenge as its chosen event. The challenge involves teams of four that have seven hours to complete as many miles as possible on cardiovascular equipment in the hotel foyer and gym.

The event is being supported nationally by some of Sky One’s new Gladiators and local competitors can pit their times against those of the show’s stars. The Gladiators team will be entering in this event at Hilton Brighton and participants in Mayfair and around the country can simultaneously compete against the show’s stars via a live internet link up between all the hotels on the day.

Predator, aka Du’aine Ladejo the two-time Olympic medalist, Commonwealth Gold medalist and five times European cup winning sprinter, said: “It’s great to be a part of Around the World in a Day. It’s really important to support children who need our help around the country and when doing so also encourages people to get active, it’s a perfect scenario. When the Hilton in the Community Foundation asked me to get involved, I was delighted to do so.”

Sarah Watson at Dogs for the Disabled said: “We are hugely grateful for the support of everyone at Hilton hotel who are putting in huge efforts to reach their challenge of traveling around the world in a day. Many of our clients face so many challenges on a regular basis so I’m sure this event will do a fantastic job in raising awareness about out work and the money raised will also help other disabled people who could benefit from an assistance dog.”

Julie Harrop and her assistance dog Ezra will be at the hotel on Sunday to show her support for the event. Julie is a full-time wheelchair user and lives in Camden and she has been partnered together with Ezra by Dogs for the Disabled for just over 12 months. Ezra is a yellow Labrador and has been trained to help Julie by picking things up such as dropped keys or wallet, help fetch the post and can open even open a door. As Julie lives a busy London life, Ezra has been particularly trained to cope with the hustle and bustle of London life and takes everything in his stride.
